Director’s Statement
On behalf of Philadelphia Asian American Film & Filmmakers, I welcome you to the 5th Annual Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival presented by HBO (PAAFF’12)!
With 7 days of programming and 16 film programs, this festival is our largest to date and PAAFF is proud to continue to present culturally relevant films to broad and diverse audiences here in Philadelphia.
Highlights of PAAFF’12 include the coming-of-age sports documentary No Look Pass; the hilarious tale of American expatriates in China, Shanghai Calling; the moving family drama, White Frog; the lush historical drama spanning 7 generations in Pearls of the Far East; and the music documentary, My Koaloha Story from Philadelphia filmmaker Gary San Angel, preceded by Talk Story with Daniel Ho, the 6-time Grammy Award winner.
Our films feature Hollywood and international actors Daniel Henney, Parry Shen, Lynn Chen, B.D. Wong, Booboo Stewart, Shabana Azmi, Justin Chon, Bill Paxton, Joan Chen, Sung Kang, Jacqueline Kim, Kieu Chinh, Randall Park, Kelly Hu, Harry Shum Jr., and more.
Please make sure to check out our two free diverse short film programs by up-and-coming filmmakers from throughout the US and the world.
We’d like to thank all of our sponsors for their generous support and they include: HBO, Comcast, State Farm, Multicultural Affairs Congress, DIVE, Wilkie Lexus, Hep B United Philadelphia, IBB Consulting, and many more.
PAAFF would not be possible without our hard-working volunteer staff and volunteers as well as the support of all of our attendees and the local community.
So please join us for our 5th year of highlighting great films by and about Asian Americans!
