Director’s Statement

On behalf of the Philadelphia Asian American Film & Filmmakers, I welcome you to the 4th Annual Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival presented by HBO (PAAFF’11)!

2011 is a big year for us and we’ve expanded our festival to run a full week with 10 feature films and 2 short programs. Highlights include Among B-Boys, which will feature a live b-boy demonstration; the hilarious Korean American romantic comedy Wedding Palace; a live music and film event titled Suite Suite Chinatown; the exciting action drama, The Girl from the Naked Eye and the charming romantic comedy, Almost Perfect.

In addition, there are many hidden gems such as One Kine Day, the winner of the Hawaiian International Film Festival’s Audience Choice Award, and our free shorts programs, which are a great sampling of diverse films by up-and-coming filmmakers.

As always, our focus is on you, our audience. In keeping with that theme, we’ve kept ticket prices low and incorporated a number of free films and free catered receptions. You’ll also have a chance to meet our filmmakers and ask them questions following most of our films.

We’d like to thank all of our sponsors for their generous support and they include: HBO, Comcast, Multicultural Affairs Congress, DIVE, Hep B Free Philadelphia, Clear Channel Radio, Cinema Asian America, and many more.

Of course, PAAFF would not be possible without the hard work from our volunteer staff as well as the support of all of our attendees and the local community.

So please join us once again in celebrating the best Asian American films from all over the country, right here in Philadelphia!
